Harsh Realities: A Tale of Addiction and Survival is a film by two young filmmakers from Bishop Lavis in the Cape Flats in Cape Town, South Africa. It follows the emotional journey of a mother struggling to save her son from the grips of drug addiction. Through her story, we explore the impact of addiction on families and the unyielding hope for recovery. Some individuals and families rely on the drug economy for income, making them reluctant to report drug dealers. This film uncovers a story of pain, resilience, and the enduring hope for recovery and healing.
This film was created in collaboration with Dr. Hannah Hussey from the Cape Town Systematic Healthcare Action Research Project (C-SHARP), supported by facilitators from Nomzamo and Bishop Lavis.
