WHEN THE WORK IS GONE is a short documentary shot and edited by high school learners from IkamvaYouth Masiphumelele in Cape Town. Learners spoke to people from Masiphumelele about life without work. One mother mentioned how she washes other people's clothes for R50 so her children can eat that night. Another man said he has handed out so many CVs over the years that the pile would fill three boxes. People often talk about unemployment as a number. Behind that number are people trying to get through each day, not knowing where the next meal or the next rand will come from. That pressure takes a real toll on a person’s mental health, and on the whole household. Film by: Yonela Mrwebi, Melissa Ntoyaphi and Akheka Matinise Music by: Abospitter
