MAINTAINING DEPRESSION is a short documentary film shot and edited by grade 9 learners from IkamvaYouth Makhaza. While young people suffer from depression and anxiety every day, we often overlook the struggles of our mothers and our grandmothers, who face very similar realities and responsibilities.
The film reflects the authentic experiences of older women diagnosed with depression and their daily challenges in dealing with the condition. It features interviews with women who share stories of living with depression, medication, stigma, and struggles, and how to overcome them.
The documentary was shot and edited by Lulutho Mgayi (16), Phumzile Sesman (16) and Hlumelo Tshingana (15), three high school learners from IkamvaYouth Makhaza as part of the Eh!woza Learner Doccies programme.
Learners conceptualised, shot and edited the films under the tuition and guidance of Eh!woza filmmakers Samuel Flans and Alfa Fipaza.
